Appeal Fee Increases in Los Angeles
Posted by: voter1 - 10-25-2026, 07:34 PM - Forum: Increase in Appeal Fees in Los Angeles - No Replies

There is a new amendment working its way through the City Council that would raise all appeal fees.

I have attached the Planning and Land Use Management Committee Council File Transmittal which outlines the proposed new fees.

This is one of the biggest chills I’ve seen coming out of this City Council and the City of Los Angeles. As many people have already stated these new fees will effectively eliminate just about all appeals. They are:

“1. APPROVE an amendment to the Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) Chapter 1, Article 9,
Section 19.01 B.1(b) and Chapter 1A, Article 15, Section 15.1.1.F.1.b. (Appeal by Aggrieved
Person Other than Applicant) to update the non-applicant appeal fee(s), according to Option
B23 in the CAO report, to:

a. Increase the non-applicant appeal fee filed by non-applicants within the noticing/mailing
radius to the 5 percent cost recovery rate (or $1,145).

b. Increase the non-applicant appeal fee filed by non-applicants outside the
noticing/mailing radius to the 10 percent cost recovery rate (or $2,289).”

Everyone in Los Angeles should be aware of this and stop the City from taking away one of the few levers left to correct or stop a City action.

My understanding is Marissa Roy will meet with community and neighborhood organizations when elected City Attorney.
